The Benchmark Homes Story
SUMMARY: Prior to its acquisition in February 2007, Benchmark and its affiliates were engaged in the building business since 1946. In that time, Benchmark and its affiliates built and marketed over 30,000 homes and developed and built over 2,000 multi-family units in 20 multi-family communities, valued at over $100 million. Benchmark provided homebuyers with everything they needed to move into the home of their dreams, from assistance in site selection, financing, turnkey construction of their home, and complete satisfaction with Benchmark's 25-year Limited Warranty, one of the best in the building business. New Homebuyers discovered that a Benchmark home had a lower cost per square foot with higher quality and more standard features. Benchmark homes had many standard features and equipment that many builders would charge for as upgrades. Benchmark Homes … Simply a better way to build!
PRODUCTS: Benchmark offered a number of different housing lines - from traditional subdivision styled homes to the very popular Neo-traditional style homes, and multi-family town homes. All these models could be modified at the request of the homebuyer to reflect individual style. Benchmark did it all – from a functionally appointed starter home to a 6,000-square foot Homearama style show home.
ENGINEERING: Each home was custom designed by Benchmark's in-house engineering department. The latest design software was used to ensure all designs met strict state building codes while having all the advantages of current design trends. This on-site engineering capability allowed for constant communication between the designers and construction specialists providing the groundwork for the precision building system.
MANUFACTURING SYSTEM: Benchmark's building system, while somewhat new to America, has long been the construction method of choice in quality and cost conscious countries such as Japan and Sweden. Benchmark's workforce was also unique in that a number of the plant craftsmen were independent contractors providing licensed electrical, plumbing, heating/cooling, and other skills. The framing and other "rough" construction was completed by Benchmark employees who specialized in a specific field of home construction. Many Benchmark employees were with the company for over 30 years amassing a vast amount of knowledge and skill in new home construction. Benchmark refined the industrialized building technology to build high quality homes in less time than traditional "site-built" homes while providing the homeowner with superior construction, design, and materials. With Benchmark, quality and deadlines were assured. Benchmark's time tested industrialized building system and controlled construction environment allowed work to be completed in a timely manner without unnecessary delays or cost overruns.
FACILITY: Benchmark operated from a 90,000 square foot state-of-art facility in Brookville, Ohio, with the capacity to produce 300 homes per year. All of components of the house were prefabricated and assembled at Benchmark, including the floor and roof truss systems. |
